The "slow down, move over" law is a traffic safety measure that requires drivers to slow down and move over to an adjacent lane when they approach a roadside incident involving an emergency vehicle, recovery truck, or other roadside worker with flashing lights activated. If a lane change isn't possible or safe, drivers are required to slow down to a reasonable and appropriate speed . The purpose of the law is to increase the safety of roadside workers and drivers involved in disabled vehicles!
HOWEVER.. This law is rarely followed and many roadside / recovery technicians lose their lives due to people simply not slowing down or moving over.
In the UK, a trade association estimates that there are approximately 6 to 8 fatalities every year among the around 5,000 roadside recovery and repair operatives.
